Philly Cheese-Steaks

Philly Cheese steaks can be intimidating when you think about them but we created a way to simplify them. We also used ground beef versus strips of steak for some of the testing and for cost efficiency which is a big win too. You can make then either way .. at the end of the day, they are going to taste amazing.

Serving Size: 3-4

Ingredients

  • 1 Lb. Ground Beef

  • 3-4 Fresh Portugese Buns

  • 2-3 Cups Havarti Cheese, shredded

  • 1 Green Pepper, sliced

  • 1 Red Pepper, sliced (optional)

  • 1/2 Red Onion, sliced

  • 1 Tbsp. Margarine

  • 2 Tsp. Worcestershire

  • Salt, Pepper and Garlic Powder to taste

Directions

  • Pre-heat oven to 350F degrees.

  • In a large pan on the stove, melt the margarine and sautee the onions, peppers over medium heat. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder and Worcestershire.

  • When the veggies are almost cooked, add in the ground beef and season lightly again. Allow to fully cook.

  • While the meat is cooking, cut the buns length wise in half almost all the way through. Do not fully cut through though, you want them to stay attached. Lightly butter both sides of each bun and place on a baking sheet.

  • Once the meat is fully cooked, scoop the meat and veggie mixture evenly into each buns. Top evenly with the shredded havarti cheese and then place in the oven.

  • Bake for about 5-6 minutes or until cheese is melted. Broil for 1-2 minutes just to lightly brown the cheese then serve.

  • If you wish to do the fancy version, cook the steak to medium and cut into strips. Add the strips to the veggies mixture (same portions of veggies and seasonings) when fully cooked, and mix well.

  • Lay sliced cheese on a fresh bun and briefly bake until cheese is melted and bun is starting to brown.

  • Remove the buns from the oven and top with the steak/veggie mixture. Serve with a blackened ranch to REALLY feel fancy.
