Beef Dip

A Beef dip is an easy and classic meal. Always tasty. Our favorite thing about this meal though was the fact that we used ‘leftovers’ or items we had already in the house to bring it to life. We used burger buns because we had extras that had to be eaten up and we used leftover smoked tri-tip from a dinner at my parents house. We also chopped up the remaining onion and mushrooms we had in the fridge. It feels good to reduce waste and eat what you have .. helps save money too.

Beef Burger Ingredients

  • 2 Burger Buns

  • Enough sliced Beef for 2 hearty buns (I am not your mother, I am not telling you how much beef to put on your bun)

  • 1-2 Cups White Onion, sliced

  • 1-2 Cups Mushrooms, sliced

  • 1 Cup White Cheese, shredded

  • 5-6 Tbsp. Horseradish Spread (or try our Horseradish Aioli)

  • 2 Tbsp. Margarine

  • 1-2 Tsp. Worcestershire Sauce

  • Salt, Pepper & Garlic Powder to taste

Au Jus Ingredients

  • 2.5 Cups Beef Broth

  • 4 Tbsp. Margarine or Butter

  • 2 Tbsp. Flour

  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce

  • Salt, Pepper & Garlic Powder to taste

Directions

  • Pre-heat oven to 300F degrees to warm the sliced beef up again, because its leftover so hopefully it has been in your fridge.

  • While the oven is pre-heating, melt the butter in a small pot over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour until a slightly sludgey mixture is formed.

  • Pour in about 1 cup of the beef broth very slowly and whisk well. Cook about 1-2 minutes then add in the remaining beef and Worcestershire sauce. Season with desired amounts of salt, pepper and garlic powder.

  • Reduce heat and allow to simmer until needed, whisking periodically.

  • In a medium pan, melt margarine and add in the onions and mushrooms. Season with desired salt, pepper & garlic powder. Add in the Worcestershire sauce and continue cook over medium heat until mushrooms and onions are fully cooked.

  • While the beef is warming in the oven, lay out the buns, add horseradish sauce then top with cooked veggies evenly split between both buns. Top with desired amount of meat then white cheese, and return to the oven on a low broil to crisp up the buns and melt the cheese.

  • Remove from oven. transfer au jus to an appropriately sized dipping bowl and serve.
