Spicy Avocado Hummus
I would be lying if I didn’t admit that hummus is actually one of the EASIEST things to make. I was so intimidated by making homemade hummus until I actually did it. I doubt if I will ever buy store bought hummus again. This spicy avocado hummus is a great alternative to the typical (and most common) hummus options of garlic or red pepper - which are actually both so good!
We wanted to create something for St. Patrick’s Day that wasn’t just sweet or alcohol based. Those are the typical go-to’s and although we LOVE either of those options too (let’s be honest) … we wanted to create not only a salty snack option for this ‘holiday’ but a healthier option as well. This hummus is the perfect recipe!
Ingredients
2 Avocados, peeled and pitted
1-2 Cups Chick Peas, drained and rinsed
1 Jalapeno, sliced
1/3 Cup Olive Oil
2 Tbsp. Lime Juice
2 Cloves Garlic, minced
2 Tsp. Salt
1-2 Tsp. Pepper
1 Tsp. Red Pepper Flakes (for garnish)
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a food processor except 1 tsp. of salt an 1 tsp. of red pepper flakes. Mix well.
Add in remaining salt and mix by hand. Add additional salt if desired.
Scoop into a bowl, drizzle with 1 tsp. of olive oil and sprinkle with red pepper flakes then serve with homemade pita chips!
