Garlic Knots

Buns are a Thanksgiving staple. We typically go for large Thanksgiving’s so the go-to bun are the easy/delicious/cheap dinner rolls. They are perfect. However, when you get the opportunity to have a small Thanksgiving meal with just immediate family (thanks a lot COVID!) you want to take advantage of the creativity opportunity in front of you. So these Garlic Knots are a great option and they are easy to make!

Serving Size: 8-12 Garlic Knots

Dough Ingredients

  • 3.5 Cups Flour

  • 1.5 Cups Warm Water

  • 2.5 Tsp. Yeast

  • 2 Tbsp. Olive Oil

  • 1 Tbsp. Sugar

  • 3/4 Tsp. Salt

Topping Ingredients

  • 5 Tbsp. Margarine, melted

  • 1 Tsp. Garlic Powder

  • 1 Tsp. Italian Seasoning

  • 1/2 Tsp. Parlsey Flakes

  • 1/4 Tsp. Coarse Salt

Directions

  • Whisk together the warm water, sugar and yeast in a medium bowl. Set aside for 5 minutes. Allow the mixture to get bubbly.

  • Add in the salt, olive oil and 1/2 of the flour. Mix well. Add in remaining flour and mix well again. Knead using your hands to ensure it is fully mixed. Form into a large bowl.

  • Lightly grease the bowl with oil or margarine and place the dough back in then cover the bowl with a dry dish towel. Allow the dough to rise minimally 1 hour.

  • After 1hr passes, pre-heat oven to 400F degrees.

  • Lightly flour the counter and separate the dough into equal portions. Roll each portion into rope shapes at least 6inches long. Twist each portioned off section of dough into a knot and lay on a silicone lined baking sheet. Repeat for each portion.

  • In a small bowl combine the topping ingredients and mix. Brush each knot with the mixture.

  • Bake 20-22 minutes or until golden brown. DO NOT through away the excess melted margarine mix. Once I have removed the knots from the oven and they have fully cooled I always brush each of them AGAIN and sprinkle additional seasoning if needed.
