Reusable Food Storage Options

To be completely honest (I feel like I start a lot of our sentences with that line but it’s so true and I have a hard time being anything BUT honest with anyone I speak to) we don’t do a really great job 100% of the time managing our waste … for starters, we currently live in a townhouse complex that does NOT have a compost bin (which we HATE! and have spoken to the condo board about before) so, much of our food waste just ends up in the garbage and we do still use some plastic/ziploc bags in our house. We are however, so much more aware of our habits and make conscious efforts to make SMART decisions when it comes to our usage and waste. We use reusable straws, take our own grocery bags to the grocery store or use our favorite market bag from Kass Custom Knits when grabbing fresh fruits and veggies at the market. We also do our best not to waste food and find creative ways to use up old food or food that is going to go bad.

One way we DO strive to manage our waste is with reducing plastic storage and opt for a more eco-friendly option. That includes our favorite Beeswax Wraps from @goldilocks Wraps and glassware covers we picked up from a local market a couple months ago. Neither of these products are sponsored but we just simply enjoy them both. The quality and convenience of each is amazing.

Goldilocks Wraps - Hopefully you have heard of beeswax wraps before. They are quite common in the zero-waste lovers community. They are life savers when it comes to fruits, vegetables and cheeses! Obviously meats and sauces are no-go’s with these wraps. PLEASE do not use these wraps for these items lol, you will not be happy with the outcome. They are easy to clean after use (a little cold water and dry them) then voila ready to use again. Another bonus with these wraps is they come in a variety of sizes and designs. They are great gifts, stocking stuffers or a treat for yourself.

Container Covers - The perfect replacement for saran wrap! I cannot say enough good things about these things. They are one of the most used items in our house. We especially love the flexibility and various sizes of them. They are also even fairly stack-able if secured properly around a container. I quite literally get excited using these. Saran wrap is now not an item in our house we even consider using.

Both these items are great for the household especially as you look to reduce your waste in your house. You can also feel good about supporting Canadian companies (especially during COVID). Striving for a #zerowaste home is absolutely achievable and we are well on our way!
